Hi Rachel! I loved your book. I’m also from Brazil and my cousin gave it to me as a gift. The way you describe dragons and their traces is truly intriguing, and Seraphina by herself is touching. The love story inside the book is not annoying at all (thanks), and I was just hoping they would kiss again by the end of the book. Well… I think you would like to know something. There is this work being done in Brazil by some people who are creating dragon essences, which are quite similar to flower essences / remedies. The interesting part is that they describe traits of each dragon by its colour, so each dragon essence can work for an emotion or a problem… When I read your book I couldn’t stop remembering that and how interesting it would be if they matched. Hello. I really enjoyed Seraphina, but that’s not exactly an original sentiment on this site. So instead, I like waffles. For our semester test in English, we are doing something unconventional. We don’t know quite what it is, as our teacher refuses to say. We had to choose a book for it, and I chose Seraphina. Could you e-mail me at bv3035@k12.sd.us sometime?

Speaking of events, I’m about to submit a request to RHCB to see if we can possibly get you to participate in the third annual YAK Fest (Young Adult Keller Book Festival) in Texas next January. We’re hoping for a dragon-themed event if we can get several dragon-related authors (we have Sophie Jordan and Mari Mancusi on-board already). I’ll bet we could get our school choir to sing some madrigal for you.

I just finished reading Seraphina and I must say it is one of the best books I’ve read in a while. You filed your world with such detail and energy that I could feel the life of the city. The depth of emotion you put into your characters, even the “emotionless” dragons, provided a terrific connection with each of them. Another thing I found quite interesting was your method of endlessly looping music in order to assist in your writing process, I too find it useful although in another way, I use it more for the reading of terrific literature rather than the creation of it. I eagerly await the sequel to this terrific story, and as much as i would love for it to come out soon, I am content to wait if it means another book of such quality. I’m happy to find another author to read that puts such passion into their work. -May your mind dance upon the clouds of creation and your quill never run dry.
